The aircraft carrying the Chinese delegation led by President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping arrived at the airport at 12.30 p.m..Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the-Protocol Department and Chinese Ambassador Mr Li Jinjun boarded he plane and welcomed President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping. Then, the Chinese President and Madame were accorded a 21-gun salute. Schoolgirls and Chinese community in Yangon waiting at the airport-welcomed the Chinese President and Madame waving miniature flags of the two countries and chanting slogans. Pictures of Senior General Than Shwe and PRC President Mr Jiang Zemin were hung at both sides of the archway of VIP Lounge of Yangon International Airport.
Two Myanmar girls presented a bouquet to the goodwill delegation led by the Chinese President.
Afterwards, PRC President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping were greeted by Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing. The PRC President and Madame and goodwill delegation members, together with Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and party proceeded to Seinle Kantha State House in a motorcade. Teachers, students, nurses and people numbering 10,000 warmly welcomed the guests waving miniature flags of the two countries along the route from the airport to Seinle Kantha State House, and also along the University Avenue wishing the President of the People's Republic of China and Madame and Senior General Than Shwe and wife good health and hailing the Myanmar-China friendship.

Wang Yeping arrived here this afternoon to pay a state visit. The following is a translation of the written statement by PRC President Mr Jiang Zemin.I am very glad to have the opportunity of coming to the Union of Myanmar for a state visit at the
invitation of Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council. I would like to take this opportunity to convey the cordial greetings and good wishes of the Chinese people to the people of Myanmar. China and Myanmar are good neighbours with a profound " pawkphaw " friendship fostered in the long-term and close contacts between the two peoples.In the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries initiated the Five
Principles of Peaceful Coexistence for state-to-state relations and the friendly bilateral relations were
constantly consolidated and developed. This is in the interest of the two peoples as well as peace and
stability in the region.I wish to enhance mutual understanding, deepen friendship and expand cooperation through exchange of views on our bilateral relations and other issues of common interest with leaders of Myanmar during my visit. agreements at the Protocol Hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw building here at 6 p.m. today. Present at the
ceremony were Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior
General Than Shwe, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt, ministers, deputy ministers, the Myanmar ambassador to the PRC and heads of department. Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control and the Attorney-General, continued for the final day at

(8) Minister for Industry-1 inspects sites for construction of cement bag factory and pulp mill
YANGON, 12 Dec.- Minister for Industry -1 U Aung Thaung and officials inspected the sites for
construction of cement bag factory and pulp mill near Yeni No 2 Paper Mill in Yeni, Bago Division,
yesterday. The cement bag factory will produce 80 tons of bags a day and the pulp factory will manufacture 50 tons of pulp Factory Manager U Tin Htut reported on construction of new factories with the aid of charts. The minister then gave instructions. The minister and party went to the paper mill and inspected production process, paper rolls and cutting of paper into various sizes. At 10 am, the minister and party went to Zeyawady No 2 distillery and inspected quality control work, bottling, alcohol tanks, storage of fuel oil and boilers. The minister gave instructions. The minister inspected construction of warehouse r for alcohol and storage of alcohol.At 2 p.m., the minister went to Win Thuza shop in Bago and inspected sale of products of the Ministry of Industry-1, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the Ministry of Industry-2, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. He discussed storage of goods.
A contract signing ceremony between Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries and Tianjin Machinery-
'Import and Export Corporation (Group) of the People's Republic of China for construction of 60-ton per day pulp factory and newsprint project in Thabaung Township, Ayeyawady Division, was held at the Ministry of Industry-1 on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning.Present were Minister U Aung Thaung, Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen. Thein Tun and Brig-Gen. Kyaw
Win, the directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises and representatives led by Chairman Mr Sun Jian Rong of Tianjin Machinery Import and Export Corporation (Group3.)Managing Director of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries U Than Shwe reported on construction of pulp factory and newsprint factory project.
Managing Director of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries U Than Shwe and Chairman Mr Sun Jian Rong of Tianjin Machinery Import and Export Corporation (Group) signed the contract and exchanged it. Chairman Mr Sun Jian Rong spoke words of thanks. The US $ 36.5 million project will be implemented for providing the needs of newsprint in the country, import substitute products and earning foreign exchange by exporting the surplus.
Similarly, the contract signing ceremony between Chengda Chemical Engineering Corporation and
Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries for construction of 80-ton per day unbleached bamboo pulp mill, 50-ton per day chemi thermo mechanical, pulp factory and 120-ton per day alkali recovery plant at the Ministry of Industry-l. Managing Director of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries U Than Shwe reported on the project. President Mr Cao Guang and Managing Director U Than Shwe signed the contracts worth US $ 81.5 million and exchanged them. President Mr Cao Guang spoke words of thanks.
Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University to be openedYANGON, 12 Dec. - The Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University of the Ministry of Science and Technology will be opened in August 2002. The degree courses on BE (Aerospace Propulsion & Flight Vehicles), BE (Aerospace-Avionics) and BE (Aerospace-Electrical Systems & Instrumentation) will be conducted at the university. Each degree course lasts 5 years and altogether fifty students will be allowed for each degree course.
Male students who got 345 marks and above in the 2001 matriculation exam and meet the following
qualifications are entitled to apply for the entrance examination. (a) The applicant must be a Myanmar
citizen according to the existing law. (b) The applicant must pass a medical check-up. (c) The applicant must take an entrance examination which includes three two-hour papers English, Mathematics and Science and are set in accord with the matriculation curriculum. (The date, time and place for the examination will be announced in due course.) (d) An interview will be called for. Applications are to be sent to the University Entrance Scrutiny Board (the Higher Education Department, Lower Myanmar) not later than 14 January 2002. YANGON, 12 Dec. - Minister for Cooperatives Lt-Gen. Tin Ngwe inspected production process at the cooperative candy factory at the corner of Cherry Street and Industry-3 Street in Industrial Zone,
Shwepyitha, this morning. The director-general of the Cooperative Department, the chairman of the
factory and officials conducted the minister round the factory. Then, the minister and the factory
management board of directors held a coordination meeting.Deputy Director-General of the Cooperative Department Lt-Col Tin Win, Vice-Chairman U Htay Win
and Managing Director U Aung Win reported on production capacity, management and marketing. The minister gave instructions. YANGON, 12 Dec. - A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bago Anti-
Drug Squad, acting on information, searched Cho Tu (a) Saw Tei Hlyan on the Yangon-Mandalay
Highway, near Hteene Gone Village, Toungoo Township and seized 735 grams of marijuana, at 3 p.m. on 24 June 2001. In connection with the case, the Toungoo Police Station No 1 filed Cho Tu (a) Saw Tei Hlyan, 34, son of U Baraung Ne of Thaung-thale Village, DaikU Township under Section 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Toungoo District Court handed down 15 years' imprisonment under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law on him on 27 November.

For the layman who is Myanmar citizen must have their first degree, B.A. or B.Sc. Myanmar monks and nuns who apply for Diploma course must not be younger than 18 and not older than 45. Age limit for students who apply for one-year Diploma course only will be given consideration. The Selection Board reserves the right to decide whether a particular applicant has met the requirements or not.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONForeign candidates are required to sit for the written examination at the Embassy of Myanmar in country of their residence, or at the examination centre in Yangon, Myanmar. There will be two question papers, namely, one on English proficiency and the other on general Knowledge relevant to Buddhism. The closing date for submitting application form for Diploma course is 15th December 2001. The written entrance examination for Diploma course will be held on 8th January 2002. A candidate who passes the written examination must sit for personal interview at the Embassy of Myanmar in the country of their residence before joining the University. The admission policy of the University is liberal and flexible enough to get the qualified students for Diploma course. Priority will be givento foreign students. The students who joins the University is required to bring a proper medical certificate recently taken from any recognized authority showing physical and mental fitness.
VISA & OTHER EXPENSES
Once a foreign student is admitted to the Diploma course, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will take care of visa application and its extension. Tuition, boarding and messing for foreign students will be provided free by the University. Travelling expenses for joining the University will not be borne by the University.
