Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing attend 49th Kathina robes offering ceremony of Ministry of Defence

Yangon, 9 Nov - The 49th Kathina robes offering ceremony of the Ministry of Defence was held at Anawrahta Hall of the Ministry of Defence at 9.30 am today, attended by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing.

First, the ceremony was opened with three-time recitation of Namo Tassa. Then, Head of State Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and the congregation took the Five Precepts from Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Myitkyina Sayadaw Bhaddanta Silavamsa. Next, members of the Sangha recited Parittas.

Afterwards, the Senior General and wife offered eight requisites to the Magway Sayadaw. Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San, General Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Lt-Gen Tin Oo's wife Daw Khin Than Nwe and the congregation donated provisions to the Sayadaws. Then, the Magway Sayadaw delivered a sermon. And the Senior General and wife and party shared merits gained and recited Buddha Sasanam ‚iram Titthatu three times.

After the ceremony, the Senior General and wife and party offered 'soon' to the Sayadaws. Families and offices and departments at the Ministry of Defence participated in the donations of the 49th Kathina robes offering ceremony.

Secretary-1 attends cash donation ceremony for all-round construction of historic Kyaikpadagyi Hsandawshin Pagoda in Kyauktan

Yangon, 9 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt, arrived at historic Kyaikpadagyi Hsandawshin Pagoda in Padagyi Village, Kyauktan Township, Yangon South District, at 4 pm today.

The Secretary-1 accepted the cash donations and spoke words of thanks. Also present at the ceremony were Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, wife of the Secretary-1, the commander, the ministers, the deputy ministers, departmental heads, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, local authorities, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, social and religious organizations, members of Korea-Myanmar Friendship Association and wellwishers. The ceremony was opened with three-time recitation of Namo Tassa.

Then, the Secretary-1 spoke words of thanks. The Secretary-1 said the Department of Archaeology found ancient structures made of laterite like ordination hall, laterite Buddha images, thrones and Htidaw (umbrellas) in renovation of Kyaikpadagyi Hsandawshin Pagoda. He said ancient objects made of laterite excavated in the precincts of Kyaikpadagyi Hsandawshin Pagoda can be compared to those of Thaton and Thuwannabonmi 2,000 years ago. He said arrangements were made for renovation of the ancient Kyaikpadagyi Hsandawshin Pagoda about seven years ago. But they were not be able to be implemented for various reasons. About a year ago, Yuzana Co and Myanmar Universal Bank renovated the pagoda with the contribution of the wellwishers. Soon Shwehtidaw hoisting ceremony of the pagoda will be held. The prayer halls and religious structures were built. The Secretary-1 wished the wellwishers prosperity and the ceremony came to a close. Today's donations were over K 265.4 million, US $ 1,000 and Korean won 150,000.

The Secretary-1 inspected Seinphudaw and Hngetmyatnadaw to be hoisted atop the pagoda. He climbed up the pagoda and inspected preparations for hoisting of the Seinphudaw and Hngetmyatnadaw. The Secretary-1 also inspected construction of religious buildings on the pagoda platform and Ordination Hall in the north of the pagoda and laterite Buddha images, laterite stones and earthenware excavated in the east and north eastern mound.

The Secretary-1 then gave instructions to officials.

Tiers of Htidaw hoisted atop Kyaikpadagyi Pagoda in Kyauktan

Yangon, 9 Nov - A ceremony to hoist the original tiers of Shwehtidaw atop historic Kyaikpadagyi Pagoda was held at the pandal on the platform of the pagoda in Padagyi Model Village, Kyauktan Township, this morning.

First, the Chairman of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee administered the Five Precepts. Then, the Sayadaws recited Metta Sutta. Then, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin offered seventh tier of the Htidaw to the Sayadaws. Next, the commander, the minister, the deputy ministers and officials donated provisions to the Sayadaws. Afterwards, the commander, the minister, the deputy ministers and officials conveyed the seven tiers of the Htidaw to the pandal of the decorated carriage. At the auspicious time, the commander, the minister, the deputy ministers, officials and wellwishers sprinkled scented water on the first tier and conveyed it atop the pagoda. Remaining tiers of the pagoda were also conveyed atop the pagoda.

Later, the ceremony ended with performance of rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the successful completion of the ceremony. The hoisting ceremony of Hngetmyatnada and Seinbudaw, the offering ceremony of Shwekyar Thingan (robes), the opening ceremony of Laterite Buddha Image Museum and the offering ceremony of Banner Post and the Gold Bell will be held on a grand scale on 11 November and the consecration ceremony on 12 November.

Kathina robes offered

Yangon, 9 Nov - The fifth Kathina robes offering ceremony of staff families of the Ministry of Transport was held at the Dhammayon of the ministry in the precinct of Mahawizaya Pagoda in Dagon Township this morning.

State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Member Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Suddhamma-jotikadhaja Inle Sayadaw Bhaddanta Veponlabhivamsa invested the congregation with the Nine Precepts, and members of the Sangha recited the parittas.

Then, Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe and wife Daw San San Myint, the deputy ministers and their wives and officials presented Kathina robes and offertories to members of the Sangha and nuns. Then, the Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing the merits gained. Later, "soon" was offered to members of the Sangha and nuns.

Similarly, the Buddhist Association of the Ministers' Office held its 52nd Kathina robes offering ceremony at the Dhammayon of the office this morning. First, 'soon' was offered to members of the Sangha. Then, the congregation received the Five Precepts from the Abbot Sayadaw. Then, the ministers, the deputy ministers and departmental heads offered Kathina robes and provisions to members of the Sangha. At the ceremony, ministries and departments at the Ministers' Office donated over K 650,000 worth Padethabins and provisions to members of the Sangha. Likewise, the communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of Majimagonyi Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha of Ward-11 in Thakayta Township was held at Yadana Dhammathala Hall of the Yeiktha this morning.

The congregation received the Five Precepts from Insein Township Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik Presiding Nayaka Member of State Central Working Committee of the Sangha Sayadaw Bhaddanta Tilawkabhivamsa. Then, Sirisudhamma Manijotadhara U Sein Hla Win and wife Daw Phyu Phyu Khin, Director-General of the Religious Affairs Department Dr Myo Myint, Pro-Rector of the International Buddhist Missionary University Dr Hla Pe and wellwishers presented Kathina robes and offertories to members of the Sangha.

After sharing the merits gained, 'soon' was offered to members of the Sangha. Similarly, the 53rd communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha was held at the Dhammayon of the Yeiktha in Bahan Township this morning. The Kathina robes and offertories were presented to Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha Ovadacariya Chanmya Aungsi Sayadaw and members of the Sangha by Chairmen and executives of Buddha Sasana Nuggaha Federation Hitaythi Association and womenl's Yogi Welfare Association. Similarly, Myanmar Police Force held its tenth communal Kathina robes offering ceremony at Aungthapyay Yeiktha in Mayangon Township this morning.

The Head of Special Investigation Department, officers and members of the department and their families attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, 'soon' was offered to Saddhammaranthi Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kusalabhivamsa and 20 members of the Sangha. Later, the Kathina robes and provisions were presented to members of the Sangha and merits gained were shared.

Htidaw hoisted atop Ananta Jeyasukha Pagoda in Kyaunggon

Yangon, 9 Nov - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun inspected repair works on Yangon-Pathein Highway yesterday morning.

This morning, the minister attended the Htidaw hoisting ceremony of Ananta Jeyasukha Pagoda built by workers of Bridge Construction Special Group-4 and local people in Yethaygyaung Village, Byaikgyi Village-tract, Kyaunggon Township.

Then, they conveyed the Shwehtidaws atop the pagoda. Afterwards, they performed the rituals of golden and silver showers marking successful completion of the ceremony.

Meeting on upgrading Yangon City held

Officials to make sustained and relentless efforts with sense of upgrading Yangon City into the city of international level

Yangon, 9 Nov - A meeting to upgrade the Yangon City was held at the meeting hall of Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyinttha here at noon today, with an address by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.

In his address, the Secretary-1 said the meeting is to coordinate measures for upgrading the Yangon City into the one which has the characteristics of the cities of international level. He spoke of the need to make sustained efforts for keeping the city not only clean, neat and tidy but also pleasant. Nowadays, the Government is making all-out efforts to build the Union into a modern and developed nation. Thus, it is required to upgrade the Yangon City into the one which has the characteristics of the cities of the world. The Yangon City Development Committee and the Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development are to make sustained and relentless efforts with a sense of upgrading the Yangon City into the city of international level, he stressed. The other Government bodies concerned, he said, are to render the necessary assistance in the project whatever the duty they are assigned.

He stressed the need for officials to make renovative efforts to enable one to enjoy the grandeur and beauty of Yangon City on entering it. The intellectuals and intelligentsia who are capable of developing the Yangon City have been in the YCDC, and they will have to coordinate with officials at different levels and make combined efforts out of pure goodwill in successful implementation of the project, he pointed out. Furthermore, constant efforts are to be made for the emergence of the buildings of great significance in the city. So also measures will have to be taken to turn the parks and gardens into pleasant and beautiful ones full of tress and flowers and so did the either sides of the roads.

Systematic efforts are also to be make for renovation of the buildings, timely completion of the construction project, meeting the set standard in construction and maintenance measures. Officials at different levels are to take measures for systematic dumping of garbage and proper drainage and to make field trip right down to grassroots levels to ensure systematic putting up of the telephone and lamp posts. Efforts are to be made for upgrading and renovation of circular trains and overpasses to enable the city to possess the characteristics of the high level city.

He also spoke of the need to make efforts in upgrading Yangon International Airport into the one of international level, and one would enjoy the grandeur and beauty of the airport on arrival. Similarly, it is incumbent upon the officials concerned to make the environs along the Yangon Rive including the ports pleasant, cleaning and beautiful. Therefore, the YCDC and DHSHD are to make efforts in harmony to realize the objectives of upgrading the Yangon City into the city of international level, which has the characteristics of the cities of international.

Then, Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe, the ministers and heads of department reported on measures to be taken for upgrading Yangon City. In response to the reports, the Secretary-1 gave instructions, which brought the meeting to a close.

Construction of Kalihtaw Dam and herbal plant garden inspected 

Yangon, 9 Nov - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and officials inspected the construction tasks of Kalihtaw Dam near Pyinmadaw Village in Hlegu Township.

The dam will irrigate 9,000 cultivable acreage in Nyaunghnapin Vegetable & Poultry Farming and Fish Breeding Special Zone in Hmawby Township this morning. Officials conducted the minister round the site and reported on the construction work. The minister then discussed with officials matters on proper drainage for the creeks in Hmawby and Hlegu; and preventing the flow of sea water to the creeks. Next, he inspected the construction of spillway, main dam and water control tower.

The minister and party went to Ngamoeyeik Dam and saw over the storage of water, maintenance of the main dam and water flow of the channels and the spillway. At the briefing hall, the minister was reported by officials on building of herbal plant garden near Ngamoeyeik Dam, cultivation of herbal plants on commercial scale, gathering of rare traditional herbal plants and research works.

Fourth seminars on Myanmar Industrial Development held at nine industrial zones, ministries

Yangon, 9 Nov - The Fourth Seminar on Myanmar Industrial Development, organized by the Leading Committee for Holding the Seminars on Myanmar Industrial Development and Industrial Exhibition, were held at the nine venues in the industrial zones and ministries this morning.

Chairman of the Work Committee Deputy Minister for Industry-1 Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and Vice-Chairman Deputy Minister for Industry-2 Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw visited the venues. The fourth seminar on Myanmar Industrial Development of North Okkalapa Industrial Zone was held at the meeting hall of the Management Committee for the Industrial Zone this morning.

A similar seminar of South Okkalapa Industrial Zone was held at the Ludu Yeiktha Dhammayon in the industrial zone. It was attended by Vice-Chairman of the Work Committee Deputy Minister for Industry-2 Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw, township authorities and departmental officials, resource persons, Chairman of the Management Committee U Bo Hsaing and members and industrial entrepreneurs.

At the seminar, Deputy Director Daw Tin Tin Htwe of National AFTA Unit of the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development and Deputy Minister Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw gave speeches. Head of Department of National AFTA Unit U Kyaw Lwin, Adviser to the Ministry of Industry-2 U Aung Soe Win and Deputy Director Daw Tin Tin Htwe of National AFTA Unit read out their papers and answered the queries. Hlinethaya Industrial Zone held the fourth Seminar on Myanmar Industrial Development at Kanaung Hall in Hlinethaya Industrial City this morning. Present were Member of the Work Committee Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, resource persons, Chairman of the Industrial Zone Management Committee U Myat Thin Aung and members and industrial entrepreneurs.

Director U Khin Maung Oo of Directorate of Telecommunications presided over the seminar. Then, Staff Officer U Zarni Aung and Assistant Director U Naing Lin of Directorate of Telecommunications and Staff Officer (Post Office) U Than Tun Aung reported their papers to the seminar. They then replied to the queries raised by those present. The fourth seminar on Myanmar Industrial Development was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Industry-1 this morning. Present were Vice-Chairman of the Work Committee Deputy Minister for Industry-2 Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw, Director-General U Tin Hlaing of Directorate of Industries and service personnel.

At the seminar, U Nyan Tun, Daw Sanda Aye and Daw Mo Mo Than of Myanma Science and Technology Research Department presented the papers. A similar seminar was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Industry-2 this morning. Resource persons of Technical Development and Cooperation Department Dr Than Than Soe, Dr Thanda and Dr Marlar Win submitted papers to the seminar. Shwepyitha Industrial Zone held the fourth seminar on Myanmar Industrial Development at Kanaung Hall in Shwepyitha Industrial City this morning. Present were Member of the Work Committee Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, resource persons, officials of the Industrial Zone Management Committee and industrial entrepreneurs.

At the seminar, Director U Htay Chun and Deputy Director U Kyaw Dun of Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration and Researcher Dr Cho Cho Mar of Myanma Science and Technology Research Department presented papers and answered the queries. The Fourth Seminar on Myanmar Industrial Development was held at Dagon (Seikkan) Township Industrial Zone this morning. Present were Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Chan Nyein, resource persons, officials and industrial entrepreneurs. Rector of Yangon University of Distance Education Dr Mya Oo presided over the seminar.

Assistant Lecture Dr Aung Kyaw of Geography Department of Yangon University, Professor Daw Than Nwe, Lecturers Daw Kyu Kyu Swe and Daw Khin Chit Chit and Tutor Daw Thida of Law Department of YU and Professor Dr Khin Mar Tun of Chemistry Department of Yangon UDE read their papers at the seminar. Dagon Myothit (South) Industrial Zone held the fourth seminar on Myanmar Industrial Development at the management committee office in Ward 64 this morning. Present were Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Chan Nyein and officials, Chairman of the Industrial Zone Management Committee U Aung Than and industrial entrepreneurs. Professor/Head of Department U Soe Myint of Yangon University of Computer Studies, Daw Thanda Thein of YUC and Dr Mya Mya Than of Technical Development and Cooperation Department submitted their papers and replied to the queries.

A similar seminar was held at Thakayta Industrial Zone this morning, attended by Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Chan Nyein, Director-General U Bo Win of Education Planning and Training Department and officials. U Tin Than of EPTD, U Kyaw Shwe of Yankin Teacher Training College and Dr Hla Hla Myint of Technical Development and Cooperation Department presented the papers and answered the queries.

Commander inspects measures undertaken for proper drainage in townships in Yangon Division

Yangon, 9 Nov - Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe inspected sanitation work and measures undertaken for proper drainage in townships in Yangon Division this morning.

Tatmadawmen, members of Myanmar Police Force, staff of Yangon City Development Committee, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, members of Red Cross and Fire Brigades, members of Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Women's Affairs and the people took part in the work.

Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Commander of No 1 Military Region Col Khin Maung Soe and officials arrived at Maha Bandoola overpass on Wayzayanta Road in Thingangyun Township. Head of Department U Bo Htay reported on measures being undertaken. The commander gave instructions on proper drainage. The commander and party also inspected sanitation work, weeding and measures to ensure proper drainage in front of Shukhintha sports ground in Shukhintha Road on Tha-kayta Township.

The commander gave instructions on carrying out sanitation work in departments, offices, schools, hospitals and wards in efforts to see that Yangon city is clean and beautiful and stressed the need to organize the people to dispose of garbage systematically.
