Yangon, 7 Dec - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and party, went to Maha Muni Buddha Image on 5 December evening and paid homage to the Image and donated gold foils to the Image.
The Senior General signed in the visitors' book and donated cash towards the funds of the image.
Then, the Senior General and party viewed the documentary photos of the image and Gandakuti Kyaungdaw.
Yesterday morning, the Senior General and party arrived at Mandalay Hill. They paid homage to Hsutaungpyay Buddha Image and donated cash to the funds.
Next, they viewed growing of trees on the hill and greening tasks, scenes of the hill environs, documentary photos and all-round renovation of the platform of Hsutaungpyay Buddha Image. Then, the Senior General signed in the visitors' book.
Afterwards, the Senior General and party proceeded to Maha Thakyamarazein Kyauktawgyi Buddha Image and paid homage to the image. The Senior General donated cash towards the funds. They then visited the compound of the pagoda.
Then, they went to Maha Lawkamarazein Kuthodaw Pagoda and paid obeisance to the pagoda. The Senior General donated cash towards the funds of the pagoda. He inspected over 250 years old star-flower tree and gave guidance on systematically conserving old star-flower trees.
At the briefing hall, Deputy Director-General U Aung Kyaing of the Archaeology Department reported to the Senior General on renovation and maintenance of stone plaques carved by Hermit U Khanti at Sandamuni Pagoda at the place of Nanmyaybontha Palace, building of Dhammazedis stone plaques, financial matters and cash donations by the people.
Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Brig-Gen Ye Myint reported on donations of wellwishers in maintaining and renovating the Dhammazedi stone plaques and future tasks.
The Senior General gave necessary instructions and viewed the scale model of Dhammazedi.
Then, they paid homage to Sandamuni Pagoda at the place of Nanmyaybontha Sannandaw Palace.
Next, the Senior General made cash donations and inspected progress in renovation of the Dhammazedis.
A total of 1,774 Dham-mazedi stone plaques on which Sutta, Vinaya and Abhidhamma, Athtakatha and tika were managed to carve by Hermit U Khanti, at Sandamuni Pagoda. The Dhammazedis are being built on the stone plaques for their durability.
At ancient Shwenan-tawkyaung (Shwekyaung), the Senior General and party paid homage to the Buddha image.
Afterwards, they viewed Myanma architectural handicraft decorated at Shwekyaung in AD 19th century, in the Konbaung period. The Senior General gave instructions on safeguarding of the ancient cultural handicraft.
The Senior General and party viewed round Maha Atulawaiyan (Atumashi) Kyaungdaw by car.
In the evening, the Senior General and party paid homage to Nammyo Hsutaungpyay Pagoda and made cash donations.
Then, the Senior General and party paid reverence to Nanmyo Hsutaungpyay Pagoda, Buddha images at Gandakuti Taik and at the compound of the pagoda.
This morning, the Senior General and party arrived at Shwesayan Pagoda in Patheingyi Township and paid homage to the Buddha image at the prayer hall.
The Senior General donated cash towards the funds and signed in the visitors' book.
Next, the Senior General and party saw over all-round renovation of Shwesayan Pagoda, Phokalar Pagoda and Phopaw Pagoda.
Afterwards, the Senior General and party inspected Htonbo-Myitnge bypass. They then went to Tooth Relic Pagoda (Mandalay) and paid homage to the pagoda.
Then, the Senior General made cash donations and visited the pagoda.
The Senior General and party proceeded to historic Thanthaykatpyaw Hsutaungpyay Pagoda in Amarapura Township and paid obeisance to the pagoda.
The Senior General donated cash towards the pagoda. The pagoda board of trustees presented the picture of the pagoda to the Senior General.
Then, the Senior General and party inspected development of Mandalay City and keeping Thingaza Creek pleasant and clean by car.
In the afternoon, they proceeded to Shwekyeemyin Pagoda. They paid homage to Anyathihataw Buddha image and ancient Buddha images kept at the pagoda.
The Senior General donated cash and visited the pagoda. Next, the Senior General and party arrived at Mandalay International Airport in TadaU Township. They left the airport by Tatmadaw aircraft and arrived back Yangon in the afternoon.
The Senior General toured Mandalay, Magway and Sagaing Divisions beginning 22 November.
First, the Senior General visited ancient Myanmar cultural area in Bagan region and attended the opening ceremony of Ayeyawady Bridge (Magway) in Magway, Magway Division.
During on his inspection tour, the Senior General met with local authorities and gave guidance on salient points on administration, economic and social norms to be carried out for regional development and tasks to be undertaken with might and main in implementing border area development plan, 24 development region projects of the Union and rural development tasks.
The Senior General inspected water supply projects for cultivation tasks, road and bridge construction projects, airport projects, factory and mill projects, thriving of various crops, development of rural and urban areas, industrial zones, ancient cultural heritage, education and health tasks and natural gas and oil fields and fulfilled requirements for their respective sectors.
The 23-township-inspection tour of the Senior General within 16 years concluded in Mandalay.
The Senior General, also arrived back Yangon.

Secretary-1 inspects all-round development of Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township
Yangon, 7 Dec - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt, arrived at Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township, Yangon Division, where Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image is kept, this morning.
First, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt paid homage to the Buddha Image. Then, Chairman of the Pagoda Board of Trustees U Shein Aung Bo reported on measures for all-round development of Mindhamma Hill to the Secretary-1 who attended to the needs. Afterwards, the Secretary-1 inspected maintenance of religious edifices on the hill, work being carried out for cleaning and beautifying the hill and maintenance of the retaining wall, and fulfilled the requirements.
After inspecting the construction of the museum, the Secretary-1 and party arrived at the White Elephant House near the hill and inspected taking care of the White Elephants. In-Charge of the team to look after White Elephants Director of Forest Department U Myint Swe reported on health of the elephants and relevant measures, Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa on feedstuff for the elephants and Yangon Division Superintending Engineer U Nyunt Maung San on construction tasks.
Before leaving the White Elephants House, the Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions to officials.

Secretary-1 attends opening of Pale Condominium in Bahan Township
Yangon, 7 Dec - A ceremony to open the New Pale Condominium jointly developed by Yangon City Development Committee and Asia Express (YGN) Co Ltd was held at the building at the corner of Kaba Aye Pagoda Road and Saya San Road in Bahan Township here this morning, attended by Chairman of the City Housing Project Supervisory Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.
First, Chairman of YCDC Mayor U Ko Lay and Chairman of Asia Express (YGN) Co Ltd U Maung Maung formally opened the new building.
Then, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt unveiled the stone inscription and sprinkled it with scented water. Afterwards, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt performed rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the success of the ceremony.
After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party and guests viewed round apartments and stalls in the condominium. The 14-storey double-building condominium comprises stalls and shops in the basement, on the ground floor and first floor. There are offices on the third floor, and flats and apartments from the third floor to the 14th floor. Four lifts with a capacity of 15 persons each are installed.
There are over 100 stalls in the building, and personal goods, cosmetics, jewellery toys and foodstuff are being sold. It is also learnt that the Pale Centre under construction comprises one 15-storey building and three 18-storey buildings.

It is national duty for literati to react to those who encroach upon the State
Ceremony to pay respects to doyen literati heldYangon, 7 Dec - A ceremony to observe the 1364 ME Myanmar Sarsodaw Day and to pay homage to literary doyens was held at the City Hall here this morning.
Vice-Chairman-2 of MWJA U Than Maung (Than Maung) reported on the purpose of the ceremony. Secretary of MWJA U Hla Tun (Hla Tun-Twantay) read the message of the Chairman of MWJA. In the Union of Myanmar the 1st Waxing of Nadaw was designated as Sarsodaw Day in honour of literati who wrote and compiled literature for the sake of the State and the people with full cetena and intention.
On that day the State-sponsored National Literary Award and Sarpay Beikman Manuscript Award presentation ceremonies and National Motto Literary and Photo Competition are held yearly. A ceremony to pay homage to literary doyens was also held. Literary doyens were honoured due to their ability to create fine literature. In other words, the dynamism of literary power is valued. The fine works of the writers promote the morale of the people and enrich the thoughts.
The people with high morale and enriched thoughts contribute toward the building of a new peaceful, modern developed nation. The Chairman of MWJA urged the literati to make endeavours for uplift of national prestige and integrity and literary pride with the application of their skill in literature.
Then, Joint-Secretary U Myint Kywe (Maung Myint Kywe) of MWJA introduced the 122 doyen literati to those present. MWJA CEC member U Aye Tun (Htet Aung) reported on availability of cash donations up to 5 December K 610,000 donated by the State Peace and Development Council; K 7,051,900 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Literary Censorship and Registration Department); K 250,000 by the Ministry of Information; K 200,000 by Yangon City Development Committee; K 300,000 by Mandalay City Development Committee; K 1 million by U Aik Tun (Asia Wealth Bank); K 100,000 each by Dr Tin Tun Oo-Dr Khin Moe Moe; physician U Kyaw Sein-Daw Nan Kham Hsa; U Aung Thein (Aung Si Hein)-Daw Khin Mya Nwe; U San Tin Aung (Shwebo); Lt-Col Ohn Maung (Retd) (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe); poet Budalin Chit Lay's son U Ye Wai (Myanmarsar); U Ye Win (Win Way Naung); writer Moe Htet Myint (Delta); Capt Myo Zaw (Retd) of Myanmar Nyunt Co; U Myint Lwin-Daw Shwe Shwe Sein Moe; and U Win Swe-Dr Yi Yi Hla (Yuwady Khin Oo). Chairman of MWJA U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) spoke on the occasion.
He said ancient Myanmar literati from successive periods accepted that high and fine literature improves the living standard of the people. They created works of art for the generation, saying there is knowledge in literature. National prestige and integrity and literary pride have become significant and have been existing in the country for thousands of years due to their concerted efforts for literature. Literature encouraged the people to fight for national struggle with solidarity. Literary doyens led the nation and its people with their pens until they are octogenerarians.
The literati started to use the slogans "Myanmar people are masters, Myanmar is our country, Myanmarsar is our literature, Myanmar is our language, We must love our country and respect our language.' The literati discharge literary duties. Moreover, they have accepted that it is the national duty for them to react to those who encroach upon the State. They are also determined to discharge that duty.
All the literati stand in unison under the leadership of the State Peace and Development Council are:
- to carry out the tasks for successful implementation of Our Three Main National Causes, national policy and national objectives through their literary might;
- to strive for further flourishing of traditions of Myanmar literature which has been full of inborn gentleness & politeness and the undaunted nationalist spirit on issues of national concern;
- to strive for ensuring national literary resistant power ever dynamic to wipe out alien cultural infiltrations and destructive activities misusing news and information technology; and
- to encourage for emergence of literary works which enhance patriotism, national prestige and integrity and for emergence of literary works reacting to some foreign publications which harm the image and prestige of the nation and the people.We the literati hereby pledge to make collective efforts for development of literature and culture which are the requirements for perpetuation of national unity. I wish all literati to have good health and peace of mind in serving the interests of the nation, the society and the Sasana. Next, those present at the ceremony paid respects to the doyen literati.
Afterwards, Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, the Auditor-General, the Mayor, deputy ministers, the MWJA Chairman and CEC members donated offertories and cash to the doyen literati individually. On behalf of the doyen literati, 2001 Life-long National Literary Award winner U Hla Kyaing (Paragu) gave an advice. In giving advise, Writer U Hla Kyaing (Paragu) said that in accord with Mingalar Sutta Pujaca Pujaneyanam Etam Mangalamottamam respects are being paid to those who are worthy of being paid respects. In Myanmar, it is believed that the tradition of paying respects has started from Bagan Era.
The ceremony to pay respects to doyen literati being held today can be said that the preservation of Myanma culture which has existed in successive eras and Buddhist culture and tradition. Paying respects to doyen literati after designating a day like today cannot be seen in any other country. The persons being paid respects at today's ceremony are the ones who are worthy of being paid respects according to their age and morale, code of conduct, and for those who pay respects will surely be with the four significant benefits, according to the teachings of Dhammapada.
Then, master of ceremonies MWJA Joint-Secretary Dr Tin Tun Oo (Dr Tin Tun Oo) spoke words of thanks and the ceremony came to an end.

Indagaw Industrial Region inspected
Yangon, 7 Dec - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, arrived in Indagaw Industrial Region this morning.
Managing Director U Soe Thein of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries reported on arrival of machines for the iron casting plant and the ball bearing workshop and arrangements for operating the workshop. Managing Director U Ye Tun of Myanma Industrial Construction Industries reported on completion of the workshops, water and power supply and others.
Next, the minister inspected construction of plants and workshops and gave instructions on meeting set standard, timely completion and efficient use of electricity and fuel.
41st Fun Fair of Hninzigone Home for the Aged opens
Yangon, 7 Dec - The opening ceremony of the 41st fun fair of Hninzigone Home for the Aged was held at the home on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Bahan Township this evening.
Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa attended and opened the fair.
First, Chairman of the organizing committee for the fun fair Chairman of the home's board of trustees U Maung Tin extended greetings. Then, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa made a speech. Commander inspects sanitation tasks in Yangon City
Yangon, 7 Dec - Tatmadawmen, members of Myanmar Police Force, workers of Yangon City Development Committee, Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Working Committee for Women's Affairs and local people carried out sanitation tasks in Yangon City this morning.
Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe arrived at Bayintnaung Yeiktha on Dhammazedi Road, Bahan Township.
No 4 Military Region Commander Brig-Gen Myo Myint, No 3 Military Region Commander Col Yan Naing Oo and Commander of Yangon Division Police Force Police Col Aung Daing welcomed the commander there. Officials reported on sanitation tasks to be carried out at the respective places. The commander inspected cleaning works at the Yeiktha.
Next, the commander and party saw over digging of drains along Myitta Road from the junction of Thanthuma and Myitta roads to Ngamoeyeik Creek in South Okkalapa Township. Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, No 2 Military Region Commander Lt-Col Myint Kyi and local authorities welcomed them there. Then, the commander, the vice-mayor and party inspected digging of the drains for proper flow of water. The commander inspected sanitation tasks at the bank of Inya Lake on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, paving of eight feet wide pedestrian lane at the junction of Kaba Aye Pagoda Road and Thitsa Road and construction of laterite road on the bank of Inya Lake. Then, the commander gave necessary instructions.
Annual meeting of Yangon Division Chambers of Commerce and Industry held
Yangon, 7 Dec - Tenth Annual Meeting 2001 of Yangon Division Chambers of Commerce and Industry was held at the Association's office in Bayintnaung Brokerage at 10 am today.
First, Chairman of YDCCI U Than Oo acted as master of ceremonies and extended greetings and explained the salient points the meeting.
Then, the Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe explained the establishment of UMFCCI by the government and urged the association to make concerted efforts to achieve the goal of UMFCCI and gave necessary instructions. President of UMFCCI U Win Myint explained the future tasks of YDCCI and Secretary U Mya Thein read out the reports presented by executive committee members.

Yangon, 7 Dec - Secretary of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung attended a ceremony to donate a new building by staff families of the Ministry of Industry-1 and wellwishers led by Minister U Aung Thaung and wife Daw Khin Khin Yi in Mahabodhi Kyaungtaik in Kyaukka Village, Taungtha Township, yesterday morning.
The minister and family received the Five Precepts from the Sayadaw of the kyaungtaik and presented offertories to members of the Sangha. At 9 am, the mini-ster attended the opening of multimedia classrooms at the post-primary school of the village. The minister and the director general of the No 2 Basic Education Department formally unveiled the signboard of the classrooms. Then, the minister inspected the learning of students and donated 12 bags of rice to the headmaster and teachers of the school.
Afterwards, the minister formally unveiled the signboard of the rural health care centre of the village and inspected the clinic of the centre. The minister also opened the tube-well, pump and pipe lines donated to Welaung Village by his family. The minister donated rice bags to the teachers of Welaung Village Basic Education High School. Secretary of Taungtha Township USDA U Thaung Sein donated K 100,000 to reading groups through Headmaster U Tha Htoo.
Education Minister visits Book Fair
Yangon, 7 Dec - Minister for Education U Than Aung and Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt visited the Book Fair being organized by Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association in the compound of Sarpay Beikman Press at Hanthawady Roundabout on Pyay Road today.
Altogether 57 bookstalls sell various subjects of books. The book fair was crowded with over 12,000 departmental officials, members of the Sangha, nuns, teachers and students and tourists who bought various kinds of books worth K 2,342,500.
The book fair will be kept open till 11 December.

Honma Golf Classic Golf Tour ends
Yangon, 7 Dec - The first Honma Golf Classic golf tour, jointly organized by Myanmar Golf Federation, Myanmar Professional Golfers Association and Lizstar Group, continued for the second day at the Shwe Mann Taung golf club in Mandalay yesterday evening.
Among the spectators were President of MPGA and MGF Brig-Gen Win Hlaing and executives, and guests. After the second day match, prize presentation ceremony was held. First, Director of Honma Golf (Myanmar) U Tun Tun presented prizes to Myint Zaw and Tun Tun Aung who won Nearest Pin and Longest Drive prizes in the Mandalay Golf Club members' golf tour. Then, International Department Manager of Honma Golf (Myanmar) Mr Shigehiro Kitabayashi presented prizes to Paw Kyu, Thein Win, Khin Maung Tun, Soe Nyunt and Ko Ko Aung who stood first, second, third, fourth and fifth in the handicap division.
Next, Managing Director Mr Atsushi Kineko of Honma Golf (Thailand) Co Ltd presented prizes to Professional Golfer Win Htwe Hlaing and Han Tun Oo who won the longest drive and the nearest pin prizes in the first day match of Honma Golf Classic golf tour, and Professional Golfer Myint Thaung and Maung Nyo in the second day match.
Managing Director U Thet Khaing of Honma Golf (Myanmar) presented prizes to Naing Naing Linn (Yangon) and Saw Khaing (Mandalay) who scored hole-in-one in the first day match, Director of Mandalay City Development Committee Major Pe Khin daily best prizes to Aye Chan Tha with 70 strokes and Aye Min Cho with 70 in the amateur level of the first day and second day matches, Min Naing (Srixon) with 66 and Myint Thaung (KM Golf Centre) with 66 in the professional golfers level of the first day and second day matches, and Managing Director of the golf club U Aye Ko first, second and third prizes to Aye Chan Tha with 145, Aye Ko with 146 and Yin Aung Latt with 148 in the amateur level. Next, CEO Dr Win Zaw of Lizstar Group presented gifts to MPGA and MGF President Brig-Gen Win Hlaing, Managing Director Mr Yasunori Saitho of Honma Golf (Japan) Co Ltd, Managing Director Mr Atsushi Kineko of Honma Golf (Thailand) Co Ltd and Managing Director Professional Golfer U Chan Han of Han Event Management. The managing director of Honma Golf (Japan) Co Ltd presented gifts to the President of MPGA and MGF, the chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council commander of Central Command, the managing director of the golf club and the director of the MCDC.
The president of MPGA and MGF spoke words of thanks and hosted a dinner in honour of the contestants and those who attended the ceremony. The first Honma Golf Classic and Mandalay Golf Club members' golf tours were organized by Han Event Management.

New Destiny Project for Poppy-substitute crops cultivation implemented in Hsadon region, Kachin State
Yangon, 7 Dec - A ceremony to destroy poppy seeds and distribute poppy-substitute crops was held at the basic education middle school in Hasten Village, Waingmaw Township, on 5 December morning.
In his address to the ceremony, Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Kachin State Committee for Drugs Abuse Control Commander of Northern Command Brig-Gen Maung Maung Swe said there was only a little cultivation of poppy in Kachin State last year. This year, the state has distributed poppy-substitute crops to growers in order not to further cultivate poppy.
In addition, cooperative efforts are needed to eradicate the scourge of narcotic drugs, he added. He continued to say that K 2.5 million for purchase of fertilizers, K 5 million for development of the region and the Hsadon middle school and 30 corrugated iron sheets for the hospital have been provided. Measures are being taken for the development of Kachin State in the sectors of transportation, water supply, education, health and economy for the local national races and over K 900 million has been spent so far, he noted.
Then, Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and U Aung Thein said that poppy growers are not the ones who can thrive on cultivating poppy and they are only exploited in the hands of opium smugglers. Therefore, to successfully implement the project of poppy-substitute crops cultivation and livestock breeding, the new destiny project (NDP) has been launched for totally wiping out opium and narcotic drugs.
Next, local nationals U Phan Shan Tainhsaung and U Yunhtan, on behalf of the local people, denounced the trafficking and abuse of narcotic drugs and made a pledge not to cultivate poppy. Then, mustard, buckwheat, wheat, 78.5 baskets of green pea seeds, 600 viss of potato strain, 1,000 kilos of maize, 53 broilers, 20 bags of rice and 50 blankets were distributed to the local farmers. Local people destroyed the rest poppy seeds surrendered by local farmers of their own volition.
Then, the commander and party inspected poppy-substitute winter crops cultivation and pine and tea plantations.
Yangon, 7 Dec - A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Hpa-an Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Ma Maw in Myitta Street, Ward 4 in Myawady on 28 July this year and seized 125 stimulant tablets from her.
Action is being taken against Ma Maw, 25, daughter of U Tha Aung of Myothit Quarter in Ward 4, Myawady, and accomplices Thant Zaw, 26, husband of Ma Maw and son of U Maung Aye, and Naing Win, 33, son of U Ny Tut of Ohndaw Ward in Minlatpan Village, Myawady Township under the section 15/19(A)/20(A)(B) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Myawady Police Station.
Similarly, another combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Myitkyina Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Ma Nan Khan Pwint in Ward 2, Seikmu Village in Phakant Township on 20 November and seized 2,066 stimulant tablets.
Action is being taken against Ma Nan Khan Pwint, 31, daughter of U Maung Yin and her accomplices Ma Lau Lant, 32, daughter of U Yan Kyi Shin of Ward 1 in the same village under the section 15/19(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Hpakant Police Station.
