Religion
Because of religious teachings, loving kindness, peace, tranquillity, unity, justice, equality
prevailing in whole country, serving as bonds firmly uniting the nation
State encouraging religious freedom and all religions to exist in accord with pure teachings
Pre-Christmas service and fellowship dinner heldYangon, 18 Dec - A ceremony to hold pre-Christmas service and dinner jointly sponsored by Myanmar Christian Council of Churches and Yangon Catholic Priests Council was held on the lawns of the Bishop Court of Myanmar on Pyidaungsu Yeiktha Road this evening, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.
Next, General Secretary of Myanmar Christian Council of Churches Rev U Smith Ngu Zatuang and Archbisop Sotero Phamo extended greetings.
Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt extended Christmas greetings.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt said at present, loving kindness is prevailing among the national brethren, and the Union of Myanmar is enjoying with peace, stability, prosperity and progress. Thus, holding of the Christmas service together with the Christian brethren of the nation further strengthens the belief that the noble deeds - peace and tranquillity, unity and development - will continue to exist in the Union till the end of the world.
The national races have been living together in a family spirit and in weal or woe in the Union since time immemorial. Because of the efforts of the national races to gradually strengthen the national solidarity throughout the successive eras, the nation is able to firmly exist as a Union today.
Although the national races of the Union have been in existence region-wise in accord with their traditions and culture and religion, the essence of the Union, in which the people have been living together in unity as a large family, has never waned, but further enhanced. It is something to be proud of for all the Myanmar races.
In addition, not only the State, but also the national races themselves have permitted all the ethnic races to freely preserve their traditions and culture, religion and race, contributing to perpetual existence of the national solidarity and the Union.
Unfortunately, the attempts to drive a wedge among the national races continue to exist, despite the fact that the people of the Union have been living with loving kindness, sympathy and forgiveness for many years. Under these circumstances, the duty to protect and preserve the unity and peace and prosperity and to know the attempts rests on the Myanmar races. Due to the collective efforts of Christian leaders and the people of the nation and the State's endeavours to restore peace, peace and tranquillity has been prevailing in the Union. It is a remarkable and an honourable achievement of the Union.
All the religions teach people to be imbued with loving kindness, compassion, sympathy and forgiveness, and to enhance their moral values and dignity. Because of the religious teachings, loving kindness, peace, tranquillity, unity, justice and equality are prevailing in the whole nation, serving as the bonds firmly uniting the nation.
The State believes that professing any religion in accord with its teachings will bring benefits and prosperity to mankind. Upholding the belief, the State is promoting religious freedom and all religions to exist in accord with their religious teachings.
Understanding the value of religiousness and loving kindness, Myanmar has been giving equal respects to all the religions and encouragement to ensure peace and progress. In this regard, the accusations against Myanmar, saying that the country has no religious freedom, are evil acts aimed at breaking up the national unity.
Ignoring the fact that all the religions are peacefully flourishing in the nation, the slanderous accusations are being made, saying that religious oppressions exist in Myanmar which has no religious freedom. In reality, the acts to launch the slanders are the attempts to achieve political gains at the expense of religion as an effective tool. In this regard, all the religious leaders are requested to ward off the slanderous accusations with sincerity and loving kindness.
Making attempts to formulate evil intentions at the expense of the religion amounts to tarnishing the image of the religion. Thus, all the people living under the pure teachings of the religion are against the slanderous accusations.
As all the countries have laws and rules for their citizens, man also has social discipline and principles. Thus, the codes of conduct, dignity and human values do exist in all human communities. All the citizens have the duty to abide by the laws of the nation and codes of conduct of the society.
So also, all the religions have their own principles, teachings and prohibitions.
Loving kindness, compassion and the will to enjoy other's success enhance the reputation of religion and serve its interest, while hatred, prejudice and jealousy will lead to destruction of the world.
The Secretary-1 then wished Myanmar to be endowed with loving kindness, forgiveness, reconciliation, justice, peace and tranquillity, straightforwardness, loyalty and joy, which are the essence of Christmas.
The State has already committed itself to giving protection to all the national people with sincere loving kindness regardless of their religion for continued prevalence of peace and tranquillity, justice, unity, progress and prosperity in the nation.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 wished all the Myanmar people to unitedly strive for emergence of a prosperous nation endowed with the essence of Christmas Ñ peace and tranquillity, joy, positive attitude, auspiciousness, loving kindness, unity, peace and justice.
Then, Chairman of Myanmar Council of Churches Rev U Saw Margeygyi said prayer.
