Secretary-1 presents prizes to winners in 2002 State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Trophy Golf Tournament

Yangon, 22 Dec - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt attended the opening ceremony of the 2002 State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Trophy Golf Tournament being held at Bagan Golf Course in Bagan ancient cultural region of Bagan-NyaungU Township on 20 December morning.

First, golfers of 31 ministry teams took the designated places. Before the tournament, the Secretary-1 cordially greeted the competitors. Then, Chairman of the Leading Committee Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, Lt-Gen Ye Myint, Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin teed off smoke balls to open the tourney.

Next, the group comprising Minister U Aung Thaung, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Labour U Tin Winn and Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw and another group comprising Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Mandalay Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung and Deputy Minister for Health Prof Dr Mya Oo took part in the tournament. Similarly, the golfers of 31 ministry teams participated in first round of the tournament.

The second and final round of the tournament was held at the same venue on 21 December morning. The golfers of 31 ministry teams participated in the final round of the tournament. At 6 pm, the prize presentation of the 2002 State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Trophy Golf Tournament was held on the lawns of the Club House of the golf course, attended by Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt.

Before the prize presentation ceremony, the Secretary-1 cordially greeted the golfers. First, Chairman of the Leading Committee Minister U Aung Thaung gave a speech.

Then, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt presented first, second and third prizes to the Ministry of Defence team, the Ministry of Home Affairs team and the Ministry of Mines team in the team handicap event respectively; and the Ministry of Defence team, the Ministry of Home Affairs team and the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs team in the team scratch event respectively.

On behalf of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt gave away trophies to leaders of two Ministry of Defence teams which won first each in the team handicap event and the team scratch event respectively.

Next, the Secretary-1 presented prizes to U Khin Maung Yin of Ministry of Forestry team, U Khin Maung Htay of YCDC, U Than Naing Aung of Ministry of Construction team, U L Zaw Goon of Ministry of Foreign Affairs team and U Tin Maung Shwe of Ministry of Hotels and Tourism team who won the special prizes at the first hole in the first round; and U Mya Lwin of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries team and U Khin Maung Htay of YCDC team at the first hole in the second round.

Then, Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence gave away prizes for the best losers to leaders of the respective teams in the team handicap event and the team scratch event. Lt-Gen Ye Myint then presented prizes to hole-in-one players U Phone Myint Swe of Ministry of Transport team and U Tint Lwin Oo of Ministry of Cooperatives team and most eagle, most birdie, most par, longest drive and nearest pin winners respectively.

Next, Chairman of the Leading Committee Minister U Aung Thaung presented first, second and third prizes to respective winners in the individual handicap event and the individual scratch event. Vice-Chairman of the Leading Committee Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint presented prizes to players of the best teams. Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint gave away cash prizes to those who stood from fourth to 20th positions in the individual handicap event and the markers of Yangon City Golf Resort through the administrator.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party posed for documentary photo together with first prize winning Ministry of Defence team. In the tournament, the Ministry of Defence team secured the first prize with 391 strokes, the Ministry of Home Affairs team the second with 399 and the Ministry of Mines team the third with 411 in the team handicap event.

In the team scratch event, the Ministry of Defence team won the first prize with 497 strokes, followed by the Ministry of Home Affairs team the second with 499 and the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs team the third with 501.

In the individual handicap event, Maj Zaw Min of the Ministry of Defence team stood first with 126 strokes. His runners-up were Lt-Col Hla Maw Oo of the Ministry of Commerce team the second with 128 and U Win Naing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation team the third with 130.

Maj Zaw Min of the Ministry of Defence team placed his position at the first place with 162 strokes in the individual scratch event. U Khin Maung Yin of the Ministry of Forestry team stood second with 164 strokes and Lt-Col Hla Maw Oo of the Ministry of Commerce team, third with 164.

Secretary-1 hoists Htidaw atop Soe Min Gyi Pagoda in NyaungU, inspects ancient cultural heritage and regional development in Bagan

Yangon, 22 Dec - The consecration ceremony of Soe Min Gyi Pagoda in Bagan-NyaungU was held in conjunction with the ceremony to hoist Htidaw atop the pagoda at the pandal in the precinct of the pagoda yesterday morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.

First, members of the Sangha consecrated Soe Min Gyi Pagoda. Then, the ceremony was opened with three-time recitation of Namo Tassa. The Secretary-1 and party and the congregation took the Nine Precepts from Alodawpyay Sayadaw Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Ariyavamsa. Then, members of the Sangha recited Parittas.

The Secretary-1 offered Seinbudaw for Soe Min Gyi Pagoda and provisions and Lt-Gen Ye Myint, Hngetmyat-nadaw and offertories to the Sayadaws.

Similarly, Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and the ministers offered provision to members of the Sangha. Next, Gukyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Jagara delivered a sermon, then the Secretary-1 and party shared the merits gained. Afterwards, the Htidaw hoisting ceremony of the pagoda followed. The Secretary-1 and party and lay persons conveyed Seinbudaw, Hngetmyatna-daw, tiers of the Htidaw for the pagoda and other tiers of Htidaw round the pagoda clockwise.

Next, the Secretary-1 and party and lay persons carried the Seinbudaw, the Hngetmyatnadaw and tiers of the Htidaw to the decorated carriage. Then, they conveyed the Seinbudaw, the Hngetmyatnadaw and tiers of the Htidaw atop the pagoda by the decorated carriage.

At the auspicious time, the Secretary-1 and party hoisted the Seinbudaw atop the pagoda. At the same time, the ministers, the deputy ministers and lay persons hoisted Htidaws atop the encircling zedis.

Then, the ceremony came to an end with three-time recitation of Buddha Sasanam Ciram Titthatu.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party performed the rituals of golden and silver showers to mark successful completion of the ceremony. Soe Min Gyi Pagoda, pagoda No 1145, was built in the earlier period of 12th Century AD by Soe Min Thakhin (a) Soe Min Kodawgyi. The pagoda was renovated with the donations of the commander, LID commanders and wellwishers.

General Khin Nyunt and party proceeded to the Bagan farm of Hong Pang Co at Arid Region Model Agricultural Farm in NyaungU Township. At the briefing hall, in-charge of the farm U Than Tun Oo reported to the Secretary-1 on thriving perennial and seasonal crops on 62.36 acres of land out of 74 acres of cultivated land and arrangements being made for cultivating pomelo and orange plantations on the remaining areas. Hong Pang Group Administrator U Khin Maung Myint gave a supplementary report.

Then, the Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions and inspected thriving 29.05 acres of pomelo plantation and 4.21 acres of grape in the Bagan farm. He gave instructions on testcultivation of export crop 'maccadamia'.

Next, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt and party arrived at Bagan Basic Education High School where they were welcomed by officials of No 2 Basic Education Department, members of the School Board of Trustees, Headmistress Daw Shwe Paw, teachers and students.

The Secretary-1 and party then inspected the printed media room, the arts room, the audio visual room, the language lab, the computer aided instruction room and the computer skill room. The MEC Chairman presented video tapes as teaching aids, 8,532 exercise books and 2,844 pencils to the headmistress.

Then, the Secretary-1 gave a speech. He urged the teachers to make efforts for uplift of education standard of the students in giving lectures on respective subjects to them with the use of modern teaching aids, and the students are also to pursue education with diligence.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party went to BEMS (Branch) in West Phwasaw Village in NyaungU Township. At the school, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the audio room and the audio visual room. Headmaster U Thein Tun reported on the number of students, condition of the school buildings and classrooms, installation of modern teaching aids and requirements. The Secretary-1 fulfilled their needs.

Then, the Secretary-1 presented 21,000 exercise books and 700 pencils for the BEMS (Branch) in West Phwasaw Village and BEPSs in East Phwasaw Village to the respective schoolheads.

At the ceremony, the Secretary-1 gave a speech. He said the students have great talent and teachers are to teach the pupils to become outstanding ones with the use of the teaching aids installed at the school. Next, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to Myanma Traditional Lacquerware Training School in West Phwasaw Village and inspected the trainees learning at the training school.

The Secretary-1 met with local authorities and local people and fulfilled their requirements. He urged them to maintain Phwasaw Village to have characteristics of a model village. Then, the Secretary-1 and party arrived at five Seminga pagodas, west of Htilo-Minlo Pagoda in Bagan where they were welcomed by Minister for Culture Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Director-General U Nyunt Han of Archaeology Department and officials.

The Secretary-1 inspected maintenance of ancient cultural artifacts such as paintings on the interior of pagoda No 1848. Then, the Secretary-1 viewed the wall paintings and designs illustrating 550 Buddhist Jatakas in the interior of pagoda No 1844 and No 1846. Officials reported on maintenance for durability of the artifacts being carried out. Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party arrived back at Bagan guest house.

In the evening, the Secretary-1 and party paid homage to Alodawpyay Pagoda in Bagan. They made cash donations towards the funds of the pagoda. Next, they went to Ananda Pagoda and paid obeisance to Buddha images. They then visited the Gandakuti Taik and inspected maintenance of cultural heritage.

The Secretary-1 presented cash donations for the pagoda. Later, they arrived back at the guest house. This morning, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to Sale in Chauk Township. In the afternoon, they arrived back here.

Yangon, 22 Dec - Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) hosted a Christmas dinner at the M-3 Food Centre at 7 pm yesterday. Present were Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, delegates of Buddhist, Hindu and Islam associations and social organizations, YMCA members and the Christians faithful.

Milestones in U Hla Tun's life to be emulated by new generation youths
Secretary-1 attends ceremony to mark 80th birthday of U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Foundation Chairman

Yangon, 22 Dec - The ceremony to mark the 80th birthday and other milestones in the life of Certified Public Accountant and Financial Consultant U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Foundation Chairman U Hla Tun was held at the Hotel Nikko Royal on Natmauk Road, Yangon, at 7.45 pm today, attended by Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.

First, U Hla Tun gave an address. Next, National Health Committee Chairman State Peace and Development Council Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt delivered a speech. He said that today's ceremony was organized to mark the 80th birthday of Sayagyi U Hla Tun as well as the ceremony to commemorate the milestones in his life of carrying out social welfare work for human beings.

It was a great pleasure to see that Sayagyi U Hla Tun was in good health and has been making donations in the interests of the nation and the people while holding his 80th birthday ceremony with close friends. He wished him to continue making donations for national interests. Sayagyi U Hla Tun has set up many historic milestones and won good reputation for his righteousness, high efficiency and being loyal to the State.

The ceremony to mark the 54th anniversary of his career as public accountant and financial consultant, the 44th anniversary of his career as member of Myanmar Accouncy Council and the 4th anniversary of U Hla Tun Hospice Cancer Foundation was held in conjunction with his 80th birthday ceremony. It was a good example to be emulated by new generation youths. It was a great honour for his generous donations made out of his earnings from right career in the interests of the nation and the people.

Hospice Cancer Foundation founded by U Hla Tin provided shelter for needy patients who are dying of cancer, relieving their sufferings, giving medical treatment and comfort and providing assistance according to their faiths in their last breath. It was a significant task as those requirements were being fulfilled with goodwill and loving kindness. First, Sayagyi U Hla Tun has set up U Hla Tun Hospice Cancer Foundation and the Government has assisted the centre to open the Hospice in Yangon. Nowadays, Sayagyi U Hla Tun has made arrangements to establish Mandalay Hospice in Mandalay and donated US$ 100,000 for the project. It was a noble deed. At the same time, Sayagyi U Hla Tun donated US$ 10,000 to National Health Committee, US$ 5,000 each to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, K 100,000 each to the leprosy hospitals, the school for the deaf and the school for the blind. It was also a nobel deed for social welfare tasks.

At a time when the Government is making efforts to enable the nation to stand tall among nations of the world, the public cooperation and participation play a key role in carrying out the tasks. All the entire people are making strenuous and harmonious efforts under the correct leadership of the Government for national development, a peaceful, modern and developed nation will soon emerge. At present, with development of national economy, national entrepreneurs and national people are more and more participating in education, health, religious affairs and social welfare tasks. The activities will contribute much towards national development and enabling the nation to stand shoulder to shoulder with the global nations.

In such a time, Sayagyi U Hla Tun donates generously from his earnings out of right business undertakings and it contributes much to the interests of the nation and the people. Similarly, the accomplishments and excellent performances of U Hla Tun throughout his life are to be emulated by new generation youths. In conclusion, I would like to wish Sayagyi U Hla Tun to live long and achieve further accomplishments in his endeavours and establish more significant milestones, he said. May U Hla Tun be always happy and healthy to continue his humanitarian works and enjoy the fruitful results of his noble and meritorious deeds, said Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt.

Then, U Hla Tun donated US$ 10,000 for National Health Committee and US$ 100,000 for in-patient from Mandalay Hospice of the foundation to Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt. Next, U Hla Tun presented US$ 5,000 for Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement to Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa; US$ 5,000 for Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association to Chairperson Prof Daw Kyu Kyu Swe; K 100,000 for Leprosy Hospital (Yaynatha) of Mandalay to Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein; K 100,000 for Leprosy Hospital (Taungwaing) of Mawlamyine to Medical Superintendent Dr Saw Wah Htoo; K 100,000 for Mary Chapman School for the Deaf to Principal Daw Khin May Hsint; and K 100,000 for the School for the Blind (Khawegyan) to Principal U Thein Lwin.

Then, social activities of the U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Foundation were shown to the audience. Later, a dinner was hosted to those present.

At the ceremony, Myanmar Livestock & Fisheries Development Bank Ltd; Myanmar-Korea Timber International Ltd; Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd and Myanmar Daewoo Ltd donated K 1 million each to the foundation and U Myint Soe (a) U Su Wan-Daw Mya Mya San (Moekaungkin Films); U Khin Myint-Daw Ye Mar Maw Naing; U Wan Tun and party donated K 100,000 each to the foundation.

Agriculture and regional development tasks inspected

Yangon, 22 Dec - Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Chairman Yangon Command Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe, arrived at Hmawby and Hlegu townships this morning and inspected agriculture and regional development tasks.

Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe and party visited No 2 Livestock Breeding Camp of Yangon Command in Hmawby Township where Agriculture and Livestock Breeding Committee Secretary Lt-Col Thein Hsint and officials welcomed them.

At the briefing hall there, No 2 Livestock Breeding Camp In-charge Maj Myat Nyein reported to the commander on raising of layers, building of new chicken-runs, productivity, and marketing of eggs to the tax-free markets and other markets in Yangon. Then, Lt-Col Thein Hsint presented a supplementary report.

After giving necessary instructions, the commander inspected raising of layers using battery cage system, construction of chicken-runs and gave instructions on growing of vegetables around the farm and timely completion of the chicken-runs.

The commander then proceeded to Kalihtaw Dam near Pyinmadaw Village in Hlegu Township. At the briefing hall of the dam, constructed by Yangon Division Irrigation Department, the commander was reported by Director U Kyaw Thein of Yangon Division Irrigation Department on construction of the dam to supply water to Nyaunghnapin Special Vegetable Zone and progress of construction tasks.

The commander then gave instructions and inspected construction of spillway of the dam, inflow of water, laying of laterite, and water supply. The dam is of earthen type and is 3,500 feet in length and 65 feet in height. It has one reinforced concrete conduit which is 280 feet in length and 6 feet in height. The water storage capacity is 26,000 acre feet and the area of the water at the brim is 1,650 acres. the dam is supply sufficient water to the zone.

At Hmawby Hsan Hall of Special Zone-1, the commander heard reports by Special Zone-1 In-charge Yangon Division Agriculture Services Manager U Aung San, Special Zone-2 In-charge Yangon North District General Administration Department District Officer U Thein Naing and Special Zone-3 In-charge Yangon Division Settlement and Land Records Department U Naing Win.

After hearing the reports of respective officials, the commander made a speech. He said Ngamoeyeik Dam and Kalihtaw Dam are supplying water to the Nyaunghnapin Special Zone and arrangements are being made to supply electricity, distribute fuel and fertilizer at reasonable prices. So, national agriculture entrepreneurs are to energetically carry out agriculture and livestock breeding tasks, and members of supervisory committee for the zone are to collaboratively settle the problems of the entrepreneurs.

Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe and party inspected growing of vegetables in the Special Zone-1 and thriving onion on 15 acres of land by Myanmar Rice Wholesalers Association Chairman U Nyein. He also inspected growing of vegetables, raising of layers in the Special Zone-3, raising of breeders at the farm of Daw Tin Shwe and attended to the needs.

Altogether vegetables are grown on 4,260 acres of land, 763,898 breeders and layers and about 600,000 fish are being raised.

Mines planted by KNU go off killing one, injuring one

Yangon, 22 Dec - The Government has been making all-out efforts for the emergence of a modern and developed nation. The KNU terrorist insurgents, contrary to the endeavours of the Government, have been constantly perpetrating a series of terrorist acts such as disturbing peace and tranquility, killing innocent people and committing sabotage acts.

At 11.40 am on 20 December, U Khayu, 45, son of U Paw, of Yaypu Village, Myawady Township, stepped on a mine planted by KNU terrorists at exit of the village while he was going to the farm. The mine went off and he was injured on the whole body and later died.

Likewise, at 8.30 am on 21 December, a tractor driven by U Than Tun, 60, son of U Win of Ward 4, Myawady, passed on a mine planted by KNU terrorist insurgents at the junction near Yaypu Village when it was on its way from Myawady to Yaypu Village. The mine exploded, destroying the tractor.

Similarly, at 1 pm on 21 December, U Git Tu, 37, son of U Thaung Kyi, of Yaypu Village, Myawady Township, stepped on a mine planted by KNU terrorist insurgents at the fork of Yaypu while he was collecting woods. The mine went off and he was seriously injured.

Traditional Medicine and Medical Equipment Exhibition continues

Yangon, 22 Dec - The Third Myanmar Traditional Medicine and Medical Equipment Exhibition continued at Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road here for the 7th day today. The exhibition with 136 booths was crowded with visitors. It will continue up to 26 December.

Chinese Journalist Delegation visits Bagan, Mandalay, Sagaing

Yangon, 22 Dec - Chinese journalist delegation led by Deputy Administrator of the Air Force Newspaper Mr Zhou Zhi on 20 December visited Shwesigon, Alotaw Pyay, Arnanda and Thab-byinnyu Pagodas in Bagan and made cash donations.

In the afternoon, the delegation also visited the Archaeological Museum, the Myanma Lacquerware Institute and Lawkananda Tooth Relic Pagoda in Bagan. The journalist delegation arrived in Mandalay yesterday and visited Myanansankyaw Golden Palace, the cultural museum, pagodas and Mandalay hill in Mandalay and Kandawgyi Garden and Chinese Buddhist Temple in PyinOoLwin.

In the evening, member of Mandalay City Development Committee Lt-Col Kyaw Win hosted a dinner to the delegation at Oriental House in Mandalay and presented souvenirs. They went to University for Development of National Races in Sagaing Ywathitgyi this morning and Rector of the university Col Zaw Min Thein explained facts about the university. Then, they visited Kaunghmudaw Pagoda and Sagaing hill. The delegation arrived back here this evening by air.

Minister inspects completion of new school building

Yangon, 22 Dec - Member of Secretariat of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan arrived at No 2 Basic Education High School in Hlinethaya Township yesterday evening.

At the office of the headmistress, the minister heard report on completion of the new two-storey school building by Headmistress Daw Khin Htay. Then, the minister inspected the building and gave necessary instructions to officials concerned. The building at a cost of K 33 million was built by wellwisher Managing Director of Benhur Co Ltd U Kyaw Aung and family.

Then, the minister inspected the concrete road, the site for construction of the water tank and toilets and arrangements for keeping the compound clean and pleasant and fulfilled the requirements. The minister proceeded to No 38 Basic Education Primary School in Hlinethaya Township and inspected the school building and multimedia classrooms. He attended to the needs.

Outstanding students honoured at Dagon Township BEHS-1

Yangon, 22 Dec - The 2001-2002 Annual General Meeting of Parent-Teacher Association was held in conjunction with the prize-presentation ceremony at Dagon Thiri Hall of No 1 Basic Education High School in Dagon Township at 9:30 am today.

Patrons of Parent-Teacher Association Lt-Gen Tin Oo's wife Daw Khin Than Nwe gave prizes to outstanding students who stood second, fourth and sixth in matriculation examination for 2001-2002 in the whole country. Myanma Martial Art Team arrives back

Yangon, 22 Dec - Selected Myanma Martial Art Team led by Vice-President of Myanma Martial Art Federation U Than Myint Oo (Aye Yeik Mon) arrived back here by air this afternoon after participating in international level Pencak Silat World Championship held in Malaysia.

Tin Oo and Zam Lun Khop won two bronze medals. Altogether 22 countries took part in the championship. Myanmar Martial Art team comprised Tin Oo (50-55) kilo division, Yan Naing (55-60) kilo division, Zam Lun Khop (60-65) kilo division, Aung Khaing Min (70-75) kilo division and Coach Warrant Officer Class-I Aung Win.

Hole-in-one

Yangon, 22 Dec - U Phone Myint Shwe (Ministry of Transport Team) scored hole-in-one from a distance of 174 yards at hole No 7 by hitting the Titleist Pro V1 No1 ball with Titleist DCI 990 Iron No 6 on 20 December in the first day match of Year-2002 State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Cup Golf Tournament held at Bagan Golf Course in Bagan Cultural Ancient Region in Bagan-NyaungU on 20 and 21 December. At that time, Major San Lwin (Ministry of Defence Services Team), U Pe Thant (Ministry of Home Affairs Team) and U Aung Myint (Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Team) were playing together with him.

Similarly, U Tint Lwin Oo (Ministry of Cooperatives Team) scored hole-in-one from a distance of 176 yards at hole No 13 by hitting Precept 01 ball with Bridgestone Iron No 6 in the same event while playing together with Lt-Col Zaw Min (Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Team), U Than Tun (Ministry of Foreign Affairs Team) and U Thet Oo ( Ministry of Immigration and Population Team).

Drug traffickers sentenced

Yangon, 22 Dec - A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Muse Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, on 26 February 2002 searched the house of U Mone Sa Naw of Winesine village in Kyugok (Pansai) Township and arrested two visitors Ma Arephyin and Yekhaw together with a block of heroin weighing 185 grams, 1.97 kilos of raw opium and 590 counterfeit kyat notes.

Action was taken against Ma Arephyin, 20, daughter of U Lyankwe of Ward 1 in Monkoe, Yekhaw, 23, son of U Yinyaw of Ward 6 in Pansai and the host U Mone Sa Naw under the Sections 15/19 (A)/21 and 489 (B) (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Kyugok (Pansai) police station.

The Muse District Court, on 25 November, handed down 25 years' imprisonment on Ma Arepyin under Section 19(A) and 18 years' under Section 89/90 of the Law of the Central Bank of Myanmar. The Court also handed down 5 years' imprisonment on Yekhaw under Section 15, 15 years' under Section 19(A)/21 and 15 years' under Section 89/90. U Mone Sa Naw got 15 years' imprisonment under Section 19(A)/21 and 12 years' under Section 89/90.
