Thandwe
Before Thandwe was known as "Sandoway". It is located around 9.5 km northeast of Ngapali Beach. Thandwe has the Airport which is the main gateway to the Rakhine State.
There are many two-storey buildings in the city. All theses buildings are in the olden style with wooden carvings and mansory. A lot of rubber plantations are found in this region. Rice and coconut are also farmed in this region.
There are three pagodas on the hillsides at the edge of the town. Sandaw Pagoda, built in 784 by King Minyokin. It is believed to have enshrined the hair relic of Buddha. Nandaw Pagoda, built in 761 by King Minbra, believed to have the rib bones of Buddha. Andaw Pagoda, believed to have the tooth-relic of Buddha. Built in 763 by a Rakhine King.
